School Description

Cleve House School is an independent, non-selective school for boys and girls aged from three to eleven years of age. There are currently 98 pupils on roll. The Early Years Foundation Stage consists of the Kindergarten, Pre-Prep and Prep classes. The majority of pupils join the Kindergarten just before their third birthday and stay until the end of Form 6. A total of 21 children are in receipt of government funding. No pupils have a statement of special educational needs. A supervised early morning drop off is available from 7.45am and there is provision for a supervised late stay each day until 5.30pm. The school was first established during the 1930s and had several temporary homes during the war years. In 1948, it moved to its current site, a very large Victorian property on a residential road, ten minutes walk from Bristol city centre. In 1992, the school’s facilities were extended to provide a Kindergarten class and in 2002, a large school hall was built. The school’s facilities were further extended in 2003 with the purchase of the neighbouring property to provide a music room and enhance the Early Years Foundation Stage provision. The aim of the school is to create ‘a stable, caring environment where every child is treated as an individual’. The current proprietors are the joint headteachers, who took over the running of the school in 1987. The last Ofsted inspection took place in January 2009. Following this, a monitoring visit took place in November 2009.

“Cleve House - The Best!”

We cannot recommend this school enough, since joining Reception, 10 months ago our Son has learnt so much, he's grown and changed into a very intelligent little boy. He is miles ahead of his peer group that do not attend Cleve, such as his friends and family members around the same age. He also has weekly swimming lessons with the school, he has an immense amount of support and his confidence has grown an unmeasurable amount. The class sizes are small enough for the children to get much better 1 on 1 and focused time with the teacher, there is a family vibe about the school, the Headmaster knows everyone and genuinely cares. There are lots of ways to get involved with the school such as fetes, children's performances and afternoon teas - its like a home from home. The wrap around care on offer is a life saver for us from 730am until 530pm, for working parents this is a must. We initially thought independent school would be way out of our league/budget however you'll be surprised its very affordable and much much more affordance than private nurseries. We cannot thank the school enough or praise them enough. Cleve House is our home from home and offers the highest standard of education, we are so thankful to Cleve House and look forward to our daughter joining too.
