GCSEs 2024: additional support materials for maths and science

Students sitting GCSE maths, physics and combined science will be given formulae and equation sheets for "one more year" for the summer 2024 exams to help compensate for two years of disruption during their secondary school learning due to the pandemic.
Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has announced that GCSE students in England are to be given additional support during maths, physics and combined science exams next year. The Department for Education (DfE) has asked exams regulator Ofqual to extend support for the last cohort “who experienced two years of national closures during secondary school”.
A consultation has been launched by Ofqual, the exams regulator, with proposals to continue the arrangement for exams held in 2023, which allowed GCSE maths, physics and combined science students to use formulae and equation sheets.
Ofqual said the DfE “has confirmed that in view of the disruption students may have experienced, it is not necessary for them to memorise formulae for GCSE mathematics and equations for GCSE physics and combined science in 2024, as they must in a normal year”.
The DfE has asked Ofqual to continue the arrangement for support material “for one further year”.
