The school is larger than the average-sized secondary school with a sixth form on site. A partnership arrangement, called The Oaks Consortium, enables some students to be educated at other local schools. The proportion of students eligible for support through the pupil premium is above average. This is additional funding provided by the government for students known to be eligible for free school meals and those looked after in public care. The proportion of disabled students and those who have special educational needs supported at school action is below the national average, as is the proportion supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs. The Hub is an area where support for students’ specific learning needs of all types is provided. It incorporates a sensory support base for students with hearing and visual impairment. There are currently 12 hearing-impaired and three visually impaired students whose ages range from 11 to 16. The school’s performance meets the government’s current floor standard, which sets the minimum expectations for students’ attainment and progress in English and mathematics.
