School Description

This junior school is similar in size to the average-sized primary school. The large majority of pupils are White British. The proportion of pupils from minority ethnic groups, including those who speak English as an additional language, is similar to that found in most schools. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs is above average. A high proportion of pupils are eligible for the pupil premium funding. This additional funding is provided to support the education of disadvantaged pupils, such as those known previously to be eligible for free school meals and children who are looked after by the local authority. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress in reading, writing and mathematics at the end of Year 6. In the absence of the school’s own deputy headteacher, a deputy headteacher was seconded from another primary school in September 2014 for one day each week to support the headteacher. The secondment was increased to two days per week in February 2015. Some classes are taught by temporary teachers following a high number of staff changes in the last year. The school has had difficulty recruiting and retaining staff. The school, which has its own breakfast club, is shortly to become part of a hard federation with Colmers Farm Infant School, which shares the same building. A National Leader in Education will support the school and is due to start imminently.
