School Description

Eden School is a small, independent school in Birmingham. It recently changed its name from Beechwood School to Eden School of Accountancy. The school opened in April 2008 and its last full inspection was in November 2012. There have been significant changes in leadership, staffing and the composition of the school’s intake in the last two years. The school was originally registered for male and female pupils aged 14 to 16 years. The age range was extended to 18 years as from September 2012 but no post-16 pupils have been admitted as yet. In January 2012, the school admitted children aged three to five years for the first time into the nursery provision. However, from July 2013, the nursery has been registered separately with Ofsted and is no longer part of the school. The school moved to its current premises at 25 Whitmore Road, Small Heath, Birmingham B10 0NR from 344 Ladypool Road, Balsall Heath, Birmingham B12 5JY 524 on 10 November 2014 and opened with nine pupils on roll. The buildings were previously a commercial premises occupied by a travel agent. The buildings had been adapted to accommodate a nursery. There are currently nine pupils attending the school, eight in Year 11 and one pupil in Year 10, all on a full-time basis. No pupil has a statement of special educational needs or is looked after by the local authority. Three of these pupils are placed by Birmingham local authority and five pupils are recent arrivals from overseas. One pupil is privately funded. The school also provides places for pupils who are either new to the city and do not have a school place, or are placed because they have dropped out of mainstream provision. The school currently employs one classroom teacher and one member of administration staff. The school’s vetting checks of staff meet requirements.
