The school meets requirements on the publication of specified information on its website. The school is a selective boys’ grammar school that admits girls in the sixth form. It is an average-sized secondary school. Approximately 80% of pupils are Asian or British Asian and there are small numbers of pupils from a range of other ethnic backgrounds including White British. Nearly half of the pupils speak English as an additional language. The school has very few pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities. Inspection report: Handsworth Grammar School, 10–11 January 2017 Page 9 of 12 The proportion of disadvantaged pupils in the school is close to the national average for secondary schools, but very high when compared to selective schools. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress. The school does not make use of any alternative provision for its pupils.
