This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

Pupils enjoy coming to this happy and welcoming community. They buzz with curiosity. Pupils speak with joy and enthusiasm about what they learn, and are proud of their achievements. Their desire for learning flows from the ‘BARTS values’ of ‘believe, achieve, respect, trust, succeed’. Teachers expect pupils to work hard, and pupils rise to these high expectations. Pupils behave well. They flourish in the strongly nurturing environment. Relationships between staff and pupils are based on mutual respect. Pupils feel safe, happy and well cared for. They said that staff do not tolerate any form of bullying or unkindness. If incidents occur, they are dealt with quickly. Pupils relish the wide range of interesting opportunities that are available. They enjoy clubs such as football, netball, orchestra and drama. They also look forward to trips, including to the Watercress Line and the coast. Pupils take pride in the leadership roles and responsibilities they have. These include being a house captain, librarian, playground buddy and part of the worship team. Parents spoke highly about the school. One parent echoed the thoughts of many by saying, ‘St Bart’s is fantastic, it provides great academic and pastoral support. My children love it here.’ What does the school do well and what does it need to do better? Learning at St Bart’s is ambitious, engaging, memorable and inclusive. Leaders have thought carefully about what pupils should learn across the curriculum. This includes considering how the curriculum in early years prepares children for future learning. In most subjects, leaders precisely identify the important knowledge that pupils should learn and the order in which they should learn it. This helps teachers know exactly what pupils need to learn and remember well. However, the curriculum is not as well defined in a very small number of subjects. Leaders are taking appropriate action to address this.

“Well rounded education”

unlock
"> St Barts is a happy and energising school. Our girls have been stretched academically and offered plenty of opportunities for play, extra curricular clubs and outdoor learning. The facilities are good, the grounds fantastic and the children frequently benefit from opportunities (concerts, productions, special assemblies etc) to showcase their ever increasing talents. Teaching staff are committed and frequently go above and beyond the call of duty. So far, so great.
“Exceptional Devotion”

unlock
"> I am consistently impressed by the level of devotion and genuine enthusiasm for progressive development and learning that this school delivers. The teaching, leadership and support staff across the whole school, its systems and culture truly reflect the foundations of; Trust, Succeed, Believe, Achieve and Respect that are at its core. Going above and beyond every single day, I can not thank this school enough for the exceptional work it does. Thank you for giving my children the best possible start to their journey through education.
“So very happy”

"> An excellent school with a fantastic, inclusive approach. Wonderful sense of community and teachers who care. Couldn’t ask for more.
“A wonderful school”

unlock
"> We were delighted when our daughter was accepted into St Barts to start in the Reception class last September as we were so impressed with all aspects of the school at the open day. The children we met were so polite and we had really honest feedback from the two children that were showing us around. Our view of the school has not changed at all other than the fact that it is even better than expected! Our little girl is very shy and we were concerned she would be completely overwhelmed. This has not been the case at all and the teachers and teaching assistants have been wonderful. They have encouraged her to come out of her shell and her confidence now, both in and outside of school, has grown significantly. She has made lovely friends and academically, I am constantly amazed at how much a 4 year old can learn. She can’t wait to get to school each day to learn more! That must be testament to the school.
“Nurturing and creative school”

unlock
"> We are delighted with St Barts, since having made the decision to send our little girl here. She has struggled to acclimatise to the school routine because of overtiredness, but instead of leaving her to adapt, the staff have bent over backwards to accommodate her and help her fit in, even structuring the day around her so she gets maximum benefit. All the staff are wonderfully nurturing, with excellent leadership from their headmaster. The pastoral care is second to none. There is a great community atmosphere with lots of after school clubs, and an active PTA, as well as a great connection to the local church. We couldn't be happier here, and my youngest can not wait to join her sister at school in 18 months time.
“A very special school”

unlock
"> I still pinch myself that we stumbled across St Barts when looking to move into the catchment of a two form entry school for our five-year-old twins. Our little girl is well supported academically and being stretched but on top of that is getting a really well rounded education. She is inspired by the St Barts choir - which she has her eye on when old enough. There’s a nature garden, a netball club, plenty of outdoor space, forestry lessons and the PTA is currently fundraising for an outdoor classroom. The warm and caring pastoral culture is driven by the headmaster and an amazing body of staff. Our little boy is Autistic Spectrum and his incredible SENCO (who should be held up nationally as an example of an exemplary professional), class teacher and TA do not try and make him fit in with the school routine, rather they have adapted school to suit him. They meet his needs and nurture his strengths - he’s now on level 16 reading. St Barts is a very special school.
“Going downhill”

unlock
"> I am a parent of a child at St Barts and I can honestly say that this school has been run downhill by the current head teacher. There now seems to be a great deal of ignoring problems and very questionable policy decisions. There is also a large and growing group of parents that are dismayed by the way the school is being run. It was a fantastic school with an excellent Ofsted rating.
