Abertillery Comprehensive School is an English medium, 11-16 mixed, community school serving residential areas to the eastern side of Blaenau Gwent. These communities include Blaina, Nantyglo, Roseheyworth, Llanilleth, Brynithel, Six Bells, Soffryd and Abertillery. In 2009 the pupils from another local school joined Abertillery following that school’s closure. Despite this, the roll is falling. At the time of the last inspection there were 900 pupils on roll, currently there are 732. Around 30% of pupils are entitled to free school meals. The leadership team is made up of the headteacher who has been in post since January 2010 and three deputy headteachers who have been in post since 2009.
