Independent preparatory schools do not have to follow the National Curriculum or submit test results to the Department for Education so there is no individual school performance data or star rating.

Visit the school's website to learn more about their unique curriculum, policies on testing and common leaver destinations (a good indicator of pupil progress). See our About page for information on Choosing A Prep School.

OPEN DAYS

“Pupils achieve highly because they are nurtured, engaged and inspired to succeed, in line with the school’s mission.”    ISI Inspection Report, Jan 2019

Independent excellence for boys and girls from 3 to 13.  Beechwood Park is a thriving Prep School set in stunning rural parkland on the edge of Markyate village, just 15 minutes’ drive from Harpenden and 20 minutes from Luton, Berkhamsted and St Albans (London St Pancras International can be reached (direct) in under 30 minutes).  The School runs an extensive coach service to a number of local towns and villages and is located just 5 minutes from Junction 9 of the M1.

Onsite Woodlands Nursery prepares pupils for a smooth and stress-free transition to Reception, when they become part of the Junior Department until Year 2.  The Middle Department is for children from Years 3 to 5 whilst pupils at the top of the age range (Years 6 to 8) are in the Senior Department.  Pupils go on to a range of excellent secondary schools, many with scholarships.

There are first-rate sporting facilities including an indoor pool complex, large sports hall and extensive playing fields.  A great variety of sports are on offer as well as the traditional ones (rugby, football, hockey, netball, cricket (both boys’ and girls’) such as martial arts, fencing, sailing and orienteering.

Co-curricular opportunities are abundant with a wide variety of clubs and activities available across the School, including Russian, cheerleading, origami, yoga and card games.

Opportunities in drama include the annual School Production and a range of other performance opportunities, LAMDA lessons and theatre visits and workshops.  The dynamic Music Department hosts a number of very popular choirs, ensembles and orchestras. The majority of pupils learn a musical instrument and also have the opportunity to compose and record their own music in the new Music Technology suite and Recording Studio.

The CS, Art and DT departments are equally high profile and the School is lucky enough to have its own pottery room, complete with kiln, located in the former wine cellar.  Within the School’s beautiful woodland is a well-established Forest School, with the recent addition of an outdoor classroom structure, aptly named ‘Treetops’, which is enjoyed across the curriculum, by all pupils.

Flexi-boarding is available from Year 5 and is a very popular option.  The Boarding House holds many fun evening events and activities for the boarders, in addition to ensuring that homework and music practice are completed.

Please visit us at one of our Open Mornings or by individual appointment.  Open Mornings are held each term, and you will have a chance to see our onsite Nursery (Woodlands Nursery) and School in action and meet the Head, staff and pupils.
