School Description

Safeguarding is ineffective because the proprietor failed to make a referral to the Disclosure and Barring Service, breaching its statutory safeguarding duties. However, at a school level, the procedures in place to keep pupils safe are effective. Pupils said that they feel safe because there are always staff around to help them and to provide support when it is needed. Pupils are safe in the school building. Many pupils arrive at this school after difficult journeys through the education system. Pupils settle and are typically happy at school. This means that they are starting to make a more positive contribution to the respectful culture that the school is trying to build. The school’s values of being compassionate, inspiring, dependable and collaborative are being built and embedded through the behaviour and personal development offer. Pupils believe that behaviour at this school is much better than it was during their mainstream experience. Work has begun to improve pupils’ behaviour further. However, some pupils do not behave as well as the school expects. This means that incidents of poor behaviour sometimes still occur. Pupils enjoy the opportunities that they have to go on trips and visits. For example, trips to London’s cultural and historic sites, such as the Tate Gallery and Leadenhall Market. Weekly boxing sessions as part of the physical education (PE) programme, make a positive contribution to pupils’ physical, emotional and mental well-being. The school wants the best for its pupils. Work is now underway to develop the curriculum to achieve this aspiration. However, it is early days. Therefore, these changes are not having an impact on pupils’ current learning. Pupils are not prepared well for the next stage of their education.
