School Description

This is much smaller than the average-sized primary school. The proportion of pupils for whom the school receives the pupil premium (which is additional government funding for pupils known to be eligible for free school meals, looked after children and children of service families) is below the national average. There are currently no looked after children or children of service families in the school. The proportion of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs who are supported through school action is average. The proportion supported through school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is above average. Almost all the pupils are White British. More pupils than average join the school at times other than in to Reception. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress. Pupils are taught in mixed-age classes, with Years 1 and 2 pupils taught with children in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Pupils in Years 3 to 6 are taught in a second class. The school converted to become an academy on 1 August 2011. When its predecessor school, Burrington Church of England Controlled Primary School was last inspected by Ofsted, it was judged to be good overall. The Chulmleigh Academy Trust is a group of five schools working together. The headteacher took over leadership of this school in September 2011.

“Excellent school”

unlock
"> Burrington school is a small school that has so much to offer. I have 3 children, 2 are still in the school and they thoroughly enjoy the school. My 3rd child has now gone up to secondary school and she was really sad as she loved her time at Burrington. All the teachers are so friendly and helpful, they have taught my children loads.
“Outstanding school with small classes”

unlock
"> An Outstanding village primary school with small classes and a real family feel. Excellent teaching and results. The small classes and high staff ratio allow children to reach their full potential and flourish as individuals. Both my children attended this school throughout their primary years and I would fully recommend Burrington Primary school.

“Feeling privileged”

unlock
"> We are feeling privileged to have this excellent school on our doorstep. The small class sizes & high staff: pupil ratio gives it a feel of a private school but for FREE! Our son loves it and he gets all the attention he needs growing up trilingual.
“Very pleased”

"> Well worth considering! Small, personal, professional - approachable staff... have one child at the school now and one gone on to Chulmleigh. Above average results with high staff:child ratio. Great ethos and part of community.
