Byron Wood Primary School is larger than the average-sized primary school. The proportion of pupils supported by pupil premium funding is higher than the national average. This funding is for pupils who are known to be eligible for free school meals and those who are looked after by the local authority. The number of pupils who start school speaking English as an additional language is also higher than the national average. Many pupils join the school at times other than is normally expected. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs is in line with the national average. There is a nurture unit for disabled pupils and those who have a special educational need. Children attend the early years provision on a full-time basis. The school meets the government’s floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ progress and attainment in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6. The headteacher has been in post since 2009. There have been changes in the senior leadership and teaching team this year. Further changes in the leadership and teaching team are expected for September 2015.
