The concentration of pupils shows likelihood of admission based on distance criteria

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

The school is much larger than average with a large sixth form. It became an academy in August 2011. About one-third of the students are White British, other students coming from many different minority ethnic groups, a well above average proportion, the largest of which is Black African. The proportion of students who speak English as an additional language is also well above average. An above average proportion of students is known to be eligible for free school meals, as is the proportion of disabled students or those with special educational needs, supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs. The support provided is mainly for moderate learning difficulties and dyslexia as well as for behavioural difficulties and emotional and social needs. The school’s specialism is the humanities. It is heavily oversubscribed with about six applicants for each place, an increasing number of external applicants for the sixth form and waiting lists for all years. The school meets the current government floor standard, which sets minimum expectations for students’ attainment and progress.

“Serious concerns”

unlock
"> In my experience, this school has an extremely high staff turn over. Seven excellent English teachers have left within the last two years. The year 8s have had another excellent head of year leave in two years and is now run by a very young and inexperienced deputy head of year. I am extremely concerned and I am looking to move my child as she cannot have temporary teachers for a core subject. My understanding is that the school does not have a Local Authority governor attached to the school governors’ team. Ofsted should be informed.
“Cut above other Ealing Schools”

unlock
"> Immaculately kept and staff are professional. If you have visited other Ealing Schools like I have, you'll see that Drayton is a cut above. Strict rules and high expectations upset some which comes with the responsibility in my opinion.
“Looks good on the surface”

unlock
"> Don't be fooled by the facade, uniform and head teacher. In my opinion as a current parent, the pastoral care is an ineffective box ticking exercise. About 10 or 15 years ago Drayton had a very good reputation but it seriously falls short these days. The canteen was given the lowest possible food hygiene rating (0) in February. Staff turnover is high: not a good sign. I would strongly recommend looking at other options in Ealing.
“Inspirational School”

unlock
"> I can see why the school featured in the Parliamentary Review. It's a well run and well lead school with facilities comparable to famous private schools. It's very well kept and the staff have very high expectations of everything.
“Has potential but fails to deliver”

unlock
"> Teaching staff are fantastic and do their best under a chaotic SMT who shows little regard for the pastoral care of students and focuses on the reputation of the school. 5 years in and my child just started 6th Form and can only say we have been repeatedly disappointed.
“A good school but with issues”

unlock
"> Behind the five stars and positive reviews, in my experience as a former pupil, year 7-11 are fine but the sixth form is lacklustre. There are a number of complaints from sixth formers who were told they were not allowed to do their chosen A level courses, especially in more creative subjects. This is a major concern coming from one of the 'top schools in the country'. Also, the facilities are always being improved but with no apparent logic. They have a lack of vital equipment in some facilities but they can still build new buildings. Overall, however, the community is nice and the teachers are very friendly and supportive.
