School Description

Education Youth Services (EYS) Manchester is an independent day special school. It is part of the EYS Ltd group which also operates several other centres and schools nationwide. EYS has provided educational support for students since 2007 and was first registered as a school in May 2011. This is the school’s first inspection. The school is registered for up to 35 students aged 11 to 16 years. There are currently 11 students on roll aged from 14 to 16 years. Four students have a statement of special educational needs. One student is in the care of the local authority. EYS provides education for students with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties (BESD). Students often join the school after a history of exclusion and long-term absence from mainstream schools or other special school provision. Students may attend full- or part-time and are dually registered at EYS and the placing mainstream school. In the first year of operation the school has experienced a high rate of instability among the students with several short term placements for a few weeks only. EYS aims to `encourage every student to attain his or her potential, confidence and skills that are necessary to lead fulfilling adult lives.’ Evaluation of the school EYS Independent School provides a satisfactory quality of education for its students. The school successfully meets its aims by ensuring students make improvement with regard to their social, emotional and behavioural needs and, as a result, behaviour is satisfactory. Due to satisfactory and improving teaching combined with a satisfactory curriculum, students’ make satisfactory progress. Students’ spiritual, social, moral and cultural development is satisfactory. The headteacher and managers provide well for students’ welfare, health and safety which are good and arrangements for safeguarding meet all the requirements. The school meets all of the independent school regulations.
