Firs Hill Community Primary School is a larger than the average-sized primary school. There have been significant recent changes to the leadership of the school. A temporary, part-time executive headteacher is in post, along with an interim head of school, interim deputy headteacher and interim assistant headteacher. Many teachers are newly or recently qualified. The school is receiving support from St Catherine’s Academy. The proportion of pupils supported by the pupil premium is higher than that found nationally. The pupil premium is additional government funding for disadvantaged pupils known to be eligible for free school meals and for children who are looked after by the local authority. Almost all pupils are from minority ethnic groups. There has been a considerable influx of pupils from Eastern Europe over the last year. Each year, a larger than average proportion of pupils join or leave the school. The vast majority of pupils speak English as an additional language. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs is above the national average.
