The school is much larger than the average-sized primary school. The large majority of pupils are of White British heritage. The school has a unit, known as the Pirate Ship, for hearing-impaired pupils. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs is below average. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils who are supported by the pupil premium (additional government funding to give extra support to those pupils known to be eligible for free school meals and to children who are in care) is below average. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress in English and mathematics. The school makes provision for the Early Years Foundation Stage in three Reception classes. There is a nursery on the school site, which is managed by a private provider and not included in this inspection. The school provides a daily breakfast and after-school club. The headteacher is a National Leader of Education and the school is a National Support School.
