School Description

George Hastwell School provides for pupils who have a statement of special educational needs for severe or profound and complex learning difficulties. The majority of pupils experience impairments in their communication and some have autistic spectrum disorders. Almost all pupils are White British and approximately two thirds are boys. The proportion of pupils supported by the pupil premium is significantly above average. The pupil premium is additional funding for those pupils who are known to be eligible for free school meals, those children who are looked after by the local authority and services families. Pupils join the school at any point in their academic career and almost all continue into the sixth form. Currently, three pupils are dual registered with another school. Since the last inspection there have been significant changes to staff. A new deputy Headteacher was appointed in autumn 2013. There have also been a number of changes to the membership of the governing body. Just after the last inspection, a new Chair of the Governing Body was appointed.
