Independent preparatory schools do not have to follow the National Curriculum or submit test results to the Department for Education so there is no individual school performance data or star rating.

School Description

The House of Light School is a Muslim day school for girls and boys aged from 3 to 12 years. It opened as an early years provider in 2007 and as a Key Stage 1 provision in 2010. In 2012, following a material change visit, it was permitted to take pupils up to the age of 12 years. The school currently has 19 students on roll; nine of these are in the Early Years Foundation Stage and attend for the morning session only. Older pupils have lessons in Urdu, Arabic and Islamic studies, including personal, social and emotional development and citizenship, in the afternoon. There were no children of Reception age at the time of the inspection. The school has not yet had any Year 6 pupils, the oldest pupils are in Year 5. The school receives government funding for all the children currently in the Nursery. Pupils are from a range of backgrounds including Indian and Eastern European. The majority enter the school with English as an additional language, often at the early stages of acquiring this. No pupil has a statement of special educational needs. No pupils have a disability or special educational needs. The school’s premises are located on the first floor of a Mosque in Nuneaton. The premises are used in the evening by the Mosque and so the facilities have to be packed away each night. It is owned by the Nuneaton Muslim Educational Trust, a registered charity. The school aims to ‘cherish each individual’ so that they ‘reach their full potential as learners and as children of Allah’.
