The school became a member of the Huish Community Education Trust and a foundation school on 1 April 2011. It is a member of the Huish Community Learning Partnership. There have been successive changes in teaching staff since the previous inspection. This is due mainly to several maternity leaves. At the time of the inspection, the substantive deputy headteacher was on maternity leave. The school is smaller that most primary schools and around 60% of the pupils currently on roll are boys. A higher-than-average proportion of pupils join and leave the school other than at the usual times. While most pupils are of White British heritage, an increasing proportion come from minority ethnic backgrounds. A few pupils who speak English as an additional language are at the early stages of speaking English when they join the school. The proportion of pupils that are known to be eligible for the pupil premium is also rising, but remains below the average. The proportion of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs that are supported through school action is above the average, but the proportions supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs are lower than most other schools. Pupils are taught in five mixed-aged classes, including the Reception class for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage which contains a small number of Year 1 pupils. The school meets the government’s floor standards, which are the minimum expected for pupils’ attainment and progress.
