School Description

Lighthouse Christian School is an independent co-educational day school located in Moston, Manchester. It was founded in 1996 by the Deeper Christian Life Ministry. Teaching takes places in two classrooms on the ground floor of a two-storey former bakery. This is a Christian-affiliated and Bible-orientated school. It is registered to provide education for pupils aged from three to 11 years. Currently, there are nine pupils on roll aged from six to 11 years. Pupils come from a wide range of ethnic heritages. There are no pupils with a statement of special educational needs. Each morning the school uses the ‘School of Tomorrow’ programme which is built upon the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) curriculum. Pupils complete units of work called `Paces’ for each subject and record their work on these units in individual workbooks. In the afternoons the school provides a curriculum with an emphasis on more practical activities. The school aims to ‘help the pupils become fulfilled, self confident, independent, responsible, worshipping and caring members of society who achieve high standards and their full potential.’ Context of the inspection The school was last inspected in September 2011. That inspection found that the quality of the curriculum and the provision for pupils’ welfare health and safety were inadequate. The Early Years provision was also inadequate. There were several failed regulations. The school’s action plan submitted in January 2012 was judged unsatisfactory. Since the last inspection, the school has temporarily closed its Early Years provision, as it cannot meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation curriculum due to a shortage of suitably qualified staff for that age group. The small number of children who were under five have transferred to other local provision. This is the first monitoring inspection to evaluate the progress the school has made in implementing its action plan.
