This is a primary school with a nursery and is similar in size to most primary schools. The nursery is mornings only and the children attend part time. Children in Reception enter school full-time in the first few weeks of the autumn term. There is one class in each year group for pupils in Reception to Year 6. The majority of pupils are of White British heritage. The proportion of pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds is well above the national average at 40%. One third of all pupils speak English as an additional language, which is also well above average. Nearly one in three pupils is supported through pupil premium which is above the national average. This is additional government funding for pupils who are known to be eligible for free school meals and those who are looked after by the local authority. The proportion of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs is average. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress. There have been considerable and constant changes of teaching and non-teaching staff and to the school’s leadership since the previous inspection. Since the previous inspection there have been five headteachers, including two temporary executive headteachers. The executive headteacher, who is the headteacher of Chesham Grammar School, started in July 2014. Two part-time headteachers took up post in September 2014 and each leads the school for two days each week. The acting headteachers are the substantive headteacher and deputy headteacher of Holtspur Primary School. Their posts at Little Spring are temporary until the end of December 2014. The local authority replaced the governing body with an interim executive board (IEB) in February 2013. The new Chair of the Interim Executive Board was appointed three weeks ago and several new members of the IEB have also been recently appointed. The school has had five monitoring visits by Her Majesty’s Inspectors since the previous inspection. The latest was in September 2014. The school is at the early stages of seeking to become a sponsored academy after a previous intended sponsorship did not come to fruition. The pre-school on site is managed by the IEB, but this child care provision is subject to a separate inspection. The report can be found on the Ofsted website.
