This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the Pupil Level Annual School Census collected by the Welsh Government. The data tells us where pupils lived at the time of the last Pupil Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The areas from which pupils are admitted to a school can change from year to year to reflect the number of siblings and pupils admitted under high priority admissions criteria.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

School Description

Llangain Primary School is a happy and welcoming learning community that lays a firm foundation for pupils to develop their basic skills. Pupils are caring and considerate of each other, which contributes to the familial atmosphere. Staff listen mindfully to pupils if they have concerns which fosters a sense of respect and courtesy towards others. As a result, nearly all pupils are very well behaved. In a short period of time, the headteacher has identified the federation’s strengths and has established purposeful procedures to address the areas for improvement, for example by training and supporting the assistant headteachers to act more strategically. The assistant headteachers across the federation work well together and promote a culture of sharing and emulating effective teaching and learning practices among staff to improve pupils’ experiences and skills. Many pupils make sound progress at the school from their starting points. They develop their literacy, numeracy and digital skills purposefully as they mature throughout the school. Teachers provide interesting activities to engage pupils’ interest. However, teachers do not always plan systematically enough to provide regular opportunities for pupils to develop and apply their skills to the best of their ability. Through staff’s purposeful planning, most of the youngest pupils develop their skills and independence successfully. Pupils work together to solve problems for themselves effectively. There are beneficial opportunities for the oldest pupils to share ideas about what they would like to learn about their themes. However, teachers do not provide regular opportunities for pupils to make independent choices about how to complete tasks and present their work. Members of the governing body have an appropriate understanding of the federation’s strengths and areas for improvement. They are supportive of the pupils, staff and the local community and are active in striving to reduce the impact of poverty on learning experiences. However, members of the governing body do not participate fully in the self-evaluation process to monitor the effect of provision on pupils’ achievement thoroughly enough.

Llangain C.P. School Parent Reviews

Average Parent Rating

“Llangain School”

Llangain School offers a fantastic level of support due to it being a small rural school. My daughter has been very well looked after and we have close contact with her teacher, who is very approachable. It has a wonderful community feeling and all the parents help out where they can to fund raise, support school activities and help the children with their learning. A wonderful school and an asset to Carmarthenshire
