Manchester Road is larger than the average sized primary school. An above average proportion of pupils are known to be eligible for the pupil premium, which provides additional funding for children in local authority care, pupils whose parents are in the armed forces, and pupils known to be eligible for free school meals. The proportion of pupils supported through school action is above average. The proportion of pupils supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is below average. Most pupils are of White British heritage, but an increasing number are from minority ethnic groups. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress. The headteacher was appointed in January 2013 and was previously the school’s associate headteacher. The privately managed before and after-school provision is subject to a separate inspection and the report published on the Ofsted website. The school has gained a number of national awards, including the Activemark, and holds Healthy School status.
