This is a larger than average-sized primary school. The proportion of pupils supported through school action is well above average. The proportion of pupils supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is well above average. The school receives additional funding through the pupil premium for more than half the pupils. The pupil premium is additional funding for those pupils who are known to be eligible for free school meals, children from service families and those children who are looked after by the local authority. The school has a small proportion of pupils from minority ethnic groups, and very few speak English as an additional language. The school meets the government’s current floor standard which is the minimum expectation for pupils’ attainment and progress. The school has a fully integrated resource base for pupils with physical disabilities and medical needs. Currently, seven children attend this provision. Until recently, the school received specialist support from a national leader in education from Westcliffe Primary School. This support has been used in a number of areas and included leadership coaching and mentoring, training, and support in tracking the progress of pupils. Governors have received advice from a national leader in governance, aiming to help them to become more effective in the execution of their duties. Since the previous inspection, the school has recruited a number of staff, including a specialist literacy teacher and two teaching assistants. A new Chair and vice-chair of the Governing Body have been appointed and the middle management team has been reorganised. The school runs a breakfast club and offers a wide range of clubs after school.
