New Park caters for pupils with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. All pupils have a statement of special educational needs. Since the previous inspection the school roll has increased from 68 to 107. The school now takes Key Stage 4 pupils as well as those from Key Stages 2 and 3. The vast majority of pupils – around 85% - are supported by the pupil premium. This is additional government funding for pupils who are known to be eligible for free school meals or who are looked after by the local authority. The school receives primary school sport funding for pupils in Key Stage 2. The headteacher reports that the school does not receive Year 7 catch-up funding to support pupils’ underachievement at the start of Key Stage 3. At the time of the inspection around a tenth of the pupils on roll were looked after by the local authority. The vast majority of pupils are boys. Girls make up only around a tenth of the school population. There are only small numbers of pupils in the younger year groups. Around four fifths of the school are in Key Stages 3 and 4. Around a third of the pupils are from minority ethnic groups. The school does not use off-site alternative provision. Since the last inspection, a number of teaching and support staff have joined the school and the membership of the senior leadership has increased. Local authority support services and a pupil referral unit for primary aged pupils are based on the same site as the school.
