The school was placed in special measures in December 2013. Since February 2014, the school has been led by an acting headteacher who in January 2015 was joined by an acting executive headteacher for twoand-a-half days a week. The school’s governing body was replaced by an Interim Executive Board in February 2014. Pleckgate High School Mathematics and Computing College is larger than the average-sized secondary school. Sixty percent of the school’s population are boys and 40% are girls. The proportion of disadvantaged students eligible for support through the pupil premium (additional funding provided to support the education of pupils known to be eligible for free school meals and children who are looked after) is higher than the national average. The proportion of students from minority ethnic backgrounds is significantly above the national average with the great majority of students having Pakistani or Indian heritage. The proportion of students who speak English as an additional language is well above the national average. The proportion of disabled students and those who have special educational needs is above the national average. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which are minimum expectations for students’ attainment and progress. At the time of the inspection, the school offered off-site provision for one student at St Thomas’s Centre pupil referral unit.
