St Benedict’s is much larger than the average sized primary school. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for pupil premium funding is similar to that found nationally. The pupil premium is additional funding for those pupils who are known to be eligible for free school meals, children from service families and those children that are looked after by the local authority. The vast majority of pupils are from White British heritage. The proportion of pupils supported through school action is well below that found nationally. The proportion of pupils supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is also well below the national figure. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress. The school is currently working towards becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting school. A new headteacher and deputy headteacher took up post in September 2013. There is a new Chair of the Governing Body since the time of the previous inspection.
