Sancton Wood is a school where every child finds their niche.

Our small, supportive close-knit community of 200 boys and girls, is often likened to a family - a kind, tolerant school where everyone can find their place and be valued.

Our class sizes are very small, a maximum of 16 pupils, which creates a fabulous learning environment, where teachers have time for individual students and where pupils feel comfortable airing their ideas and where imaginations can soar.

Our exam results are excellent, and this year we achieved 96% A*-C pass rate. But the school is not just about exam results; art, music, sport and many other activites are all important aspects of life here and play their part in making well-rounded studetns with their lives in balance.

We are a small independent co-educational day school for pupils aged from 1 to 16 based in the heart of Cambridge. The main aim of Sancton Wood School is to make each and every pupil aware of his or her innate qualities and skills, and to develop these to full capacity.

Nursery and Pre-Prep

Baby Unicorns’ Nursery:  provides a warm, caring and stimulating environment for children from one to two and a half.

Rising Three’s Unicorns’ Nursery Class: provides for children of approximately 2 ½ onwards who move on from Baby Unicorns.

Pre-School Unicorns’ Nursery Class: This Nursery class caters for children who will be four years of age by the end of the academic year (August 31st).

Reception Class: Children who will attain their fifth birthday during the academic year will flourish in our Reception class.

Year One Class: is for children who will be six before the academic year ends.

Year Two Class: is the final class in Nursery and Pre-Prep, and continues to provide a happy and stimulating environment for our 6-7 year olds.

All of our classes are small with an excellent adult to child ratio.  Our staff are highly experienced and extremely well qualified. Every teacher holds a degree and P.G.C.E. Our Nurseries have a staff team comprised of Early Years Teachers, Graduates in Early Years and Child Development and Level 3 and 4 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development.  We are proud of our very carefully selected, knowledgeable staff, and of their contribution to the children’s excellent levels of achievement.

Prep School

The Prep School is home to lively and inquiring minds. It spans Years 3-8 (ages 7 to 13), boys and girls are taught in small class sizes of an average of 16.

We provide children with a personalised learning programme which ensures every child reaches their full potential.  Class teachers track pupil progress diligently, setting clear targets for improvement and progression.  Many children achieve well above national age-related expectations at the end of the Prep School.

The Upper School aims to foster a love of learning, whilst playing to students’ individual strengths and gradually encouraging them to take individual responsibility for their studies. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in sport, music and drama throughout the senior school, from team fixtures to concerts and drama productions.

The enrichment programme for Years 7-9 gives students the chance to experience subjects and activities outside the formal curriculum whilst a varied programme of visiting speakers helps equip Years 10-11 to make decisions about their subject and career choices beyond Sancton Wood.
