The school is much smaller than the average-sized primary school. The school is one of three schools within the Nar Valley Federation. The three schools in the federation are led and managed by one senior leadership team and are overseen by one governing body. Since the previous inspection, the school has experienced a significant number of staff changes. The previous executive headteacher left the school in December 2014. Currently, the school is led by the acting interim executive headteacher, who was previously appointed as the deputy headteacher of the school, and the federation, in September 2014. Most pupils are White British. The proportion of pupils from ethnic minority backgrounds is smaller than average. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for free school meals and supported by additional government funding for disadvantaged pupils is broadly average. The proportion of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs is below average. The proportion of pupils entering and leaving the school during the academic year is higher than average and, as a result, the school has higher mobility than found nationally. The school does not meet the government’s current floor standards, which are the minimum expectations for pupils’ progress and attainment in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Key Stage 2. Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage attend the school full-time in a mixed Year 1 and Reception class.
