The school is smaller than the average-sized primary school. The proportions of boys and girls vary in each year group. In Reception and Year 1, children and pupils work in single-aged classes. The other classes are mixedaged groups with pupils from Years 2 and 3, Years 4 and 5, and Years 5 and 6 working together. All pupils attend on a full-time basis, including children in the early years provision. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs is above the national average. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils supported by the pupil premium is in line with the national average. This additional government funding is used to support those pupils known to be eligible for free school meals and children who are looked after by the local authority. Most pupils are from a White British background. Only a small proportion of the pupils are from minority ethnic backgrounds and the proportion of pupils who do not speak English as their first language is low. The school met the government’s current floor standards in 2014. These set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6. The school runs a breakfast club and an after-school club. Over the last 18 months, the school has experienced a significant period of staff absence in the senior leadership team and among the class teachers. The headteacher retires at the end of the summer term. Her part-time assistant headteacher also moves on to a new school. The governors have appointed a new headteacher to start in September 2015 and have appointed two members of staff to form the senior leadership team.
