The concentration of pupils shows likelihood of admission based on distance criteria

This School Guide heat map has been plotted using official pupil data taken from the last School Census collected by the Department for Education. It is a visualisation of where pupils lived at the time of the annual School Census.

Our heat maps use groups of postcodes, not individual postcodes, and have naturally soft edges. All pupils are included in the mapping (i.e. children with siblings already at the school, high priority pupils and selective and/or religious admissions) but we may have removed statistical ‘outliers’ with more remote postcodes that do not reflect majority admissions.

For some schools, the heat map may be a useful indicator of the catchment area but our heat maps are not the same as catchment area maps. Catchment area maps, published by the school or local authority, are based on geographical admissions criteria and show actual cut-off distances and pre-defined catchment areas for a single admission year.

This information is provided as a guide only. The criteria in which schools use to allocate places in the event that they are oversubscribed can and do vary between schools and over time. These criteria can include distance from the school and sometimes specific catchment areas but can also include, amongst others, priority for siblings, children of a particular faith or specific feeder schools. Living in an area where children have previously attended a school does not guarantee admission to the school in future years. Always check with the school’s own admission authority for the current admission arrangements.

3 steps to help parents gather catchment information for a school:

  1. Look at our school catchment area guide for more information on heat maps. They give a useful indicator of the general areas that admit pupils to the school. This visualisation is based on all attending pupils present at the time of the annual School Census.
  2. Use the link to the Local Authority Contact (above) to find catchment area information based on a single admission year. This is very important if you are considering applying to a school.
  3. On each school page, use the link to visit the school website and find information on individual school admissions criteria. Geographical criteria are only applied after pupils have been admitted on higher priority criteria such as Looked After Children, SEN, siblings, etc.

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School is a caring community with a dedicated team of staff and governors who want the very best for the children and aim to provide an innovative and exciting curriculum to promote quality first teaching and learning for all our pupils, so that children are enthusiastic learners who are resilient to 'have a go'. They have strong links with St Joseph’s Church and St Joseph’s Pre-School which is a private pre-school in the same building as our school. The school is set in an attractive extensive site, with bright classrooms, a lovely playground and a large playing field. Before school care is available; Breakfast club is offered by St Joseph’s Pre-School and After school care is offered in school, at the PlayHub. We also offer a wide range of after school activities. Children's health and well-being is very important and the school offers a range of sporting opportunities with professional coaches, along with special friends and buddies to make sure that all our pupils feel safe and happy in school.

“Amazing amount of opportunities”

unlock
"> St Joseph’s School in Tadcaster is a close and caring community. Both of our children have loved been part of this faith school and have had an amazing amount of opportunity and experience in the last few years. They have sung at ‘Young Voices’ at Sheffield Arena, run in cross-country competitions, performed in numerous productions from ‘The Angry Sheep’ to ‘A Midsummers Night Dream’, played football, netball and any other number of sports and attended Out-Door education residentials. And they swim every week! They have both developed a love of reading through school and have both learned how important it is that they care for each other within their school community. The staff know all of the children and ensure that every child in the community feels included and supported. There is an ‘open door’ policy, parents and carers are welcome at any time to discuss concerns - families are welcomed in to open classrooms on a regular basis.
“Caring School Community”

"> St Joseph's is a special place where all the children are valued and cared for. My children love going to school and feel part of a close and supportive community. The school staff listen and communication with parents is good. Teaching standards are high and class sizes are small. Sporting provision is strong and varied, with weekly swimming lessons for every child. Before and after school care is good and very flexible. All in all, a great little school.
“Happy Mum of 1”

"> This is a lovely small community based faith school. My son loves it and all his needs are met to the highest of standards. It has a very friendly atmosphere and all the staff seem happy in their work. The leadership from the headteacher is very strong ensuring that despite its small size standards of education are not compromised. I would thoroughly recommend this school.
“Lovely school, caring ethos, commitment to every child meeting their full potential.”
