School Description

The school is larger than most other primary schools. Higher than average numbers of pupils join the school during the year and the number of pupils at the school is rising. The early years education is provided in two full-time Reception classes. The proportion of pupils eligible for support from the pupil premium funding (extra money provided by the government for pupils, including those eligible for free school meals or looked after by the local authority) is above the national average. The proportion of pupils from minority ethnic groups is rising rapidly and is now just below the national average. These pupils represent many different nationalities and most are from a range of European and Eastern European countries. The proportion which is at the early stages of learning English is also rising and is just below average. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs is close to the national average. The school meets the current floor standards, which are the minimum standards for attainment and progress expected by the government. The school provides and manages breakfast and after-school clubs. The head of school has recently been appointed to the substantive post of headteacher. The executive headteacher, who is the headteacher of Chantry Community Primary School, will continue to support the school until July 2015. During the summer term the school will become an academy and a member of the Diocese of Chichester Academy Trust.
