St Michael’s is smaller than the average-sized primary school. Most pupils are from White British backgrounds. The proportion of pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds and those who speak English as an additional language is below average. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs who are supported through school action is higher than average. The proportion who are supported through school action plus or who have a statement of special educational needs is lower than average. The proportion of pupils eligible for the pupil premium is broadly in line with the national average. The pupil premium is the additional government funding provided for children in local authority care, those known to be eligible for free school meals and children from forces families. Almost all supported children in this school are those known to be eligible for free school meals. The school is part of the Exmoor Coast Federation, which includes five other local first schools and a middle school. The school runs an after-school club each day, which was included in this inspection. A privately-run pre-school setting operates on the same site. It is separately inspected, so was not included in this inspection.
