St Patrick’s is larger than the average-sized primary school. Approximately half the pupils are of White British heritage. The remainder come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds. Most children speak English as their first language. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for the pupil-premium funding is below the national average. The pupil premium is additional funding for those pupils known to be eligible for free school meals, children from service families and those children who are looked after by the local authority. The proportion of pupils supported through school action is below the national average as is the proportion of pupils supported through school action plus or with a statement of special educational need. An increasing number of pupils join or leave the school other than at the usual times. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress in English and mathematics. Since the previous inspection the school has become part of a hard federation with Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School. The headteacher is executive head of both schools and there is a single governing body. There have been significant changes in staffing including the restructuring of the senior leadership team. A school breakfast club is held daily.
