School Description

The school has a smaller than average number of pupils for a school of this type. Three quarters of the pupils are White British. One in 10 of the pupils are of Indian heritage. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs at school action (pupils who need extra support with their learning) is broadly average. The proportion supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is also average. A quarter of the pupils are supported through the pupil premium. This is similar to the national average. The pupil premium is extra government funding to support those pupils known to be eligible for free school meals, those children who are looked after by the local authority, and pupils who have a parent serving in the armed services. The proportion of pupils who leave and join the school at different times in the year is similar to that in most schools. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress in English and mathematics. There have been many changes of staff since the last inspection. The deputy headteacher was appointed to the post in September 2013. At the same time, two newly qualified teachers were appointed. Two classes are taught by temporary teachers. At the time of the inspection Year 5 pupils were on a residential visit.
