School Description

The school is smaller than the average-sized primary school. The infant and junior buildings are on different sites. The junior building shares its site with the local Children’s Centre. Most pupils come from White British backgrounds. The proportions of pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds, and who speak English as an additional language, are below average. The proportion of pupils for whom the school receives additional funding, known as the pupil premium, is above average. This funding is, for example, for children in local authority care and pupils known to be eligible for free school meals. The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs who are supported through school action is above average, as is the proportion supported at school action plus or who have a statement of special educational needs. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress. Apart from in Year 6, pupils are taught in mixed-age classes, and Nursery and Reception children are taught alongside pupils in Year 1. There have been many changes in staffing and governance since the previous inspection. The school currently has an acting headteacher. It has taken the decision to become a sponsored academy. The school runs its own breakfast club and has recently set up a nurture group to help pupils with behavioural difficulties.
