Streatham and Clapham High School Reviews

Average Rating:

“Happy parent”
I love this school and so do my daughters. The comms are weak but the pastoral care amazing and my girls have transitioned seamlessly from Prep.
“Great Start!”
My daughter loves the school. She feels confident and happy. She has joined lots of new clubs, finds the teachers very approachable and has made lots of new friends. It’s early days but I’m very impressed so far and would absolutely recommend the school!
“Sloppy Streatham”
Don't send your daughter here if she might need pastoral care as, in my experience, they don't believe in providing it until the wheels have come seriously off. Don't expect a well run school either: we have experienced it to be chaotic and sloppy. There is also very very poor co-curricular club provision. Many girls don't eat lunch; the school just doesn't seem to care. Really could not recommend it.

Streatham & Clapham Prep School has adopted some exciting new initiatives which will shape the future of the Prep over the coming years, developing the compelling and distinctive nature of the School. The Prep’s strong focus on subject specialist teaching is enhanced by excellent facilities, including a science laboratory, well-resourced library, full-sized Sports Hall and excellent Computing, Art and PE facilities.

SCHS encourages parents visiting our Nursery and Prep to ask about the school’s ethos and approach to the curriculum; for example, how the early mastery of key mathematical and literary skills is supported. We have adopted two exciting new initiatives: Singapore Maths, a programme which helps ensure the deeper mastery of mathematical concepts and language, as well as the continual development of learning aptitude; and Talk4Writing, an engaging approach to writing that focuses on complete immersion in rich text through paired and group ‘talk’ and leads to framing of writing in different contexts and an understanding of the writing process.

The Prep also offers an extensive range of subjects and co-curricular activities. In addition to French and Spanish, Latin and Mandarin are taught. The latter is taught by a specialist alongside the form teacher, leading to linguistic acquisition and a greater global knowledge.

To ensure pupils can think critically, take part in meaningful discussion and know about some of the significant philosophical thinking, we have introduced Philosophy for Children (P4C), beginning in the Upper School and rolling down to Year 2. P4C is an enquiry-based approach to developing pupils’ learning and has shown to be key in the development of self-belief and confidence.

Our aim is to provide a caring, child-centred environment where pupils flourish, to support their learning and fuel their creativity, giving them the confidence to work around a problem, take a risk, overcome challenges and consider their place in the wider world.

Streatham & Clapham High School students have achieved superb A Level results, with the pass rate being sustained at 100% for the sixth consecutive year.  The percentage of A Levels awarded the top grade of A* is 19.5% (up 6 percentage points on the previous year).  The percentage of grades awarded A*/A is 48% (up 10 percentage points on the previous year – a great advance compared with the national picture, in which there was hardly any increase), whilst the proportion of grades awarded at A*-B is 81% (an advance of 12 percentage points on the previous year).

This is in the context of the students sitting a number of the ‘tougher’, linear A Level exams this year, in which all assessments take place at the end of the course rather than through a series of modules over two years.

Over a quarter of the school’s A Level students achieved an A* or A grade in every subject they took.

Streatham & Clapham High School pupils achieved excellent GCSE results this year, with 67% of grades at A*/A.  There were some very impressive individual performances at GCSE, with a quarter of the cohort achieving A*/A grades in every subject that they took.

An astonishing 60% of all English Literature grades were awarded an A*.  All 40 pupils taking Physics GCSE scored either an A* or an A, as did all 19 pupils taking Art GCSE (13 of whom attained an A* grade).

The Head Master, Dr Millan Sachania, comments: ‘I am delighted by the public examination results achieved by SCHS pupils this year. This is a clear testimony to their hard work, dedication and ambition, and I congratulate them, and their teachers, on this level of achievement.’
