Ta-Leem Academy is a Muslim day school, which is located in a building previously used as offices in Manor Park, Newham. It was set up in 2012. The headteacher is the sole proprietor. The school is registered for up to 90 boys and girls from 11 to 16 years of age. At present, the school is only teaching girls in Year 7 and Year 10. The school wants to continue registration with the Department for Education (DfE) as a girls-only school for those aged from 11 to 16 years. As part of the inspection, the school’s request for a material change for the new premises was considered. There are nine girls on roll, none of whom has a statement of special educational needs. During the inspection, the inspector found out that the school was also teaching four school-aged boys through the day, but none of them was registered with the school. The inspector saw no boys taught during the inspection. Students are mainly from Somali, Pakistani and Indian heritages. The majority of the students travel from areas such as Manor Park and Ilford. The school aims to provide an Islamic and secular education to students in an Islamic environment. The school had its pre-registration inspection in November 2012. This was the school’s first full inspection. As part of this inspection, checks were made on its capacity to accommodate the 90 students for which it is registered with DfE in its new premises. The proprietor moved the school to its present premises in September 2013.
