School Description

The college is the educational arm of Autism Hampshire, which provides a wide range of services for people with autism throughout the county. The college is currently registered to admit up to 25 male and female students between the ages of 14 and 25 years, all of whom have a statement of special educational needs, or an education, health and social care plan. These specify autistic spectrum disorder, often with other complex learning difficulties. Currently all the students are male. The college was first opened in 1971 as the Hope Lodge School and was last inspected as such in July 2012. Since then it has changed its name and focus, and is currently in discussion with the Department for Education regarding reclassification as a post-16 college. In the interim it is now only accepting students over the age of 16, so that all provision is now classed as sixth form. Five students live in residential accommodation owned by Autism Hampshire away from the school site, while a further two live on the college site. The residential accommodation was not considered as part of this inspection. Other students live at home. All have been placed at the college by their local authority. The college does not make use of any alternative provision and does not use any early examination entry. Since the last inspection, a new principal, deputy principal of college and three qualified lecturers with experience of post-16 education for students with autistic spectrum disorder have been appointed. Teaching staff employed at the time of the last inspection have subsequently left.

The Bridge Catchment Area Map

This school is independently managed and its admission criteria may be selective. There is no set catchment area as pupils are admitted from a wide variety of postcodes and, in the case of boarding schools, from outside the UK. Contact the school directly or visit their website for more information on Admissions Policy and Procedures.
