School Description

The Connaught School is a smaller-than-average secondary school. Almost two thirds of students at the school are from White British backgrounds. Approximately one fifth of students are from other Asian origins, predominantly Nepalese. The proportion of students who speak English as an additional language is well above that found nationally. The proportion of students supported by the pupil premium, which is additional funding for students who are known to be eligible for free school meals and children who are looked after by the local authority, is above average. The proportion of disabled students and those who have special educational needs is broadly average. A number of students in Years 10 and 11 attend courses and alternative provision at the Linden Centre. The school does not enter students early for GCSE examinations. The school has a higher-than-average number of students who join and leave the school during the school year. The school meets the current government floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for students’ attainment and progress at the end of Year 11.
