School Description

The Grange is smaller than the average-sized secondary school. The school is part of a soft federation with Twynham School, a local outstanding school. A small number of teachers and school leaders work in both schools and secondments to the senior leadership team at The Grange are in place. An application to become an academy sponsored by Twynham School has been approved by governors and, at the time of the inspection, was due for approval by the Department for Education. The proportion of students known to be supported through the pupil premium (in this school additional funding to support students known to be eligible for free school meals and children who are looked after by the local authority) is above average. The percentage of students who speak English as an additional language is below the national average as is the proportion of students from minority ethnic heritages. The proportion of students supported at school action is below average. The proportion supported through school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is above average. A small number of students at Key Stage 4 follow vocational and work-related courses on site. Twynham School, Queen Elizabeth’s School and Glenmoor School also use this facility. The sixth form is small and offers vocational courses at level 2 and level 3 for students from The Grange and Twynham School. The school meets the government’s current floor standards, which set the minimum expectations for students’ attainment and progress.
